Nancy Maxwell from Sweet DreamzZz Detroit stopped by to talk with us about their program. Sweet DreamzZz, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping at-risk children get a good night's sleep in preparation for classroom learning. Partnering with the National Center on Sleep Disorders Research, and Dr. Monica Tracey, Wayne State University, Sweet DreamzZz's Rest. Educate. Motivate. (R.E.M.) Sleep Program educates children on the benefits of healthy sleep habits, helps them to establish a healthy bedtime routine and provides them with the bedtime essentials to sleep well. After being taught the educational component of the program, each child receives a sleep kit including, a sleeping bag, nightshirt, socks, toothbrush, toothpaste, sleep activity book, crayons, stuffed animal and more.

Currently, Sweet DreamzZz has helped more than 23,000 children using the high-quality, detailed and relentless work of many volunteers and supporting corporations and individuals. With 47.8% of Detroit children living below the poverty level in 2004, Sweet Dreamzzz mission is to ensure that all these children have a warm, comfortable night's sleep and that they be educated regarding the importance of sleep.
